Vestas begins community consultation on Piambong Wind Farm

The Vestas Piambong Wind Farm project team has started its community consultation activities about the proposed Piambong Wind Farm.

The team visited the town centres of Mudgee and Gulgong to meet with members of the community at drop-in sessions on June 2 and 3 2022, hosting stalls at Mudgee Metroplaza and outside of Gulgong IGA. Printed information was available for people to take home and share with friends and neighbours.

At the drop-ins, members of the Mudgee and Gulgong communities expressed interest in learning about the project, particularly the proposed locations of the wind turbines. As the project is in its inception, the turbine locations are yet to be finalised. Feedback from landowners and the community about the project will assist the Vestas Piambong team to understand regional and site-specific concerns to help advise the turbine locations.

More opportunities to share information

Vestas will host more community engagement opportunities in future months as the project progresses. If the project proceeds, consultation will continue through construction and into project operation.

Our next drop-in sessions are at the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days on July 8 and 9 2022.

We look forward to speaking with more community members and learning from locals at the Field Days. You can also complete our survey about the Wind Farm.

The planning process

Vestas is currently preparing a scoping report, which details the results of our early engagement and preliminary studies. The scoping report will be lodged with the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), which will instruct Vestas about what the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the project must include.

We hope to commence the EIS at the end of 2022 and complete it in 2024. The EIS will then be lodged with DPE, which will place the EIS on public exhibition for a minimum of four weeks. During this time, all community members, stakeholders and government agencies will be encouraged to have their say by making a submission.
